Beyond being a multiple-use objects, Scalo – like many of us – has two souls. Normally it is a wooden monolith lacking handles or other external protrusions; only two side openings allow to catch a glimpse of a colourful inner world. With a magic key that opens up new uses, Scalo opens and shows its other soul, revealing its hidden identity that gives it its name.

(a+b) are PhDs, architects, designers, experts in architecture and design for space and extreme environments. They design by crossing research and technological innovation with poetry. In 2017, they founded Space4InspirAction, a space architecture and design course supported by the European Space Agency (ESA), with which they collaborate on an ongoing basis with leading international space agencies and industries, as well as major design companies. Their work explores very different fields, searching for a bridge among science, technology and beauty: transportation design for big industry, fashion tech, object and furniture collections for companies, limited editions for art and design galleries.
